OUR HISTORY
The Windy City Wiffle League was initially created in the spring of 2020 in Chicago, Illinois by commissioner Luis Z. The original plan was to use Loyola Park as its main playing field. However due to the initial COVID-19 pandemic, the city of Chicago set restrictions on outdoor gatherings forcing the league cancel its opening season plans.
By the next Spring the restrictions were lifted and the league was relocated to the Lake Shore Drive Trail. Windy City Wiffle had its first game at 10am on Saturday May 15th 2021 between the Ducks and Gorillas. The Gorillas won the leagues opening matchup which ended with the score 3-0. The first officials umps were Jeff W and Luis Z.
THE ORIGINAL SIX
The “Original Six” consists of the first six teams that played in the initial 2021 Season. The teams were split into two divisions: the Northside Division and the Southside Division. The Northside Division consisted of the Ducks, Twisters and Gorillas. The Southside divisions included the Pirates, Tigers, and Los Gatos. The six stars on the WCW Hall of Fame logo represent the original six teams.The Ducks were the very first team to register in the league.
THE FIRST CHAMPIONS
The 2021 Windy City Wiffle League Championship Series was played on October 2nd betweenthe North Division champions Gorillas and the South Division champions Los Gatos. It was a best ofthree series which had Los Gatos sweeping the Gorillas two games in row to win the first everWindy City Wiffle League Championship. Los Gatos had a dominant year with a regular seasonrecord of 7-1 and a takeover of the regular season leaderboards. The team consisted of championsChad E., Tom K., Behdad S., and Eddie E.
THE FIRST MVP
The 2021 League MVP was Eddie E. Who earned the nickname Eddie “KO” for his prowess on themound. He held a perfect 0.00 era, and averaged ridiculous 2.85 strikeouts per inning pitched.However, one can argue that his most notable contributions came on offense. Even with missinggames he was able to climb to 2nd in HR’s and RBI’s for the season and 1st in batting average.
Many of Eddie’s hits were clutch game winners even in the championship series. His numbersput him on top of the leaderboards in Batting Average and ERA, as well as 2nd place in HR and RBI’sto cement his spot on 4/5 possible regular season leaderboard categories.
